Q You! Darers Beware

This post is thanks to a certain someone who dared me to come up with a list of my favourite things beginning with the letter "Q". Wish me luck...

1. Quilts
I don't know about you, but I could live in a quilt. Just wrap me up in a big fat beautiful quilt and I will die with a smile on my face. Some quilts are works of art and made to be hung on the wall. Some day, I too will make a quilt. I actually have everything needed to quilt...I just haven't gotten around to it yet. What else is new?

Isn't this gorgeous?

2. Quiche
Quiche has got to be one of my favourite meals. Chock full of goodness: eggs, veggies, spices, and a crust that is often to-die-for. No one else in my family likes quiche, so I make it as often as possible. Make me a good quiche, and I will be yours forever.

3. Quarterhorse
Beautiful animals they are. Full of grace and speed. I could watch them all day. I always wanted to own a horse, but being a city girl my whole life, it's kind of hard. Horses are large animals.

So, instead, maybe I'll get me one of these.

A quarter horse. Get it?

4. Quarry
There is a quarry near our home that holds a lot of memories for me. It's where my now husband and I would take long walks before we were married. It's where we took his beloved dog for runs. And it's where I went sledding as a child. Quarries hold a mystery all their own, something about having to look at them from afar, their depth and size. They're like another world, an unknown world, within our world. Kind of like my brain.

5. QWERTY keyboard
Need I say more, oh dear friends of mine? What would we do without it? I know I'd probably just end up picking my nose.

6. Quaker oats
Although they make me feel sick to my stomach (I have no idea why), I eat oatmeal because it's good for me and it makes me feel all warm inside. That is, until I start feeling nauseated.

7. Quack of a duck
Now, come on. A duck's voice is like no other. Try to listen to a cute little duck quacking and tell me if you can walk away without a smile on your face. Ducks just go with the flow (pardon the pun), happy as can be, as long as they have weeds to eat and water to paddle.

8. Quay
Quays are romantic for me. I grew up near water, and there is nothing better in the world than walking along a quay on a summer evening. I also remember sitting on a quay in Mexico a few nights with a bunch of friends, singing songs while one guy played a guitar. Good memories.

If you haven't been to this lovely city, go. If you have, go again. This is one of my favourite places in the whole world. It's extraordinarily romantic, scenic and historic. I love walking through its streets, checking out the restaurants and sites. This city has been preserved and is not only beautiful, but an important history lesson. I can't wait to take my children here.

10. Queensboro Bridge
I love bridges, and this one is amazing. Stately, beautiful. I hope to see it in person one day.

I want that job everyone's talking about, living on a Queensland island and blogging about it for 6 months, and getting paid while living there in a resort. Why? Need you ask? Just look at this place.

12. Queen-sized pantyhose
Let me explain my love for queen-sized pantyhose. I am a tall person with extremely long legs. I'm not a queen-sized person per se, except that that size is the only one that fits me lengthwise. Weird, I know. Let me tell you, however, that if you had to live with legs that look like they belong on an ostrich, you too would understand my predicament and empathize with me. There is probably nothing worse in this world (except maybe excess gas in a quiet theatre) than wearing pantyhose that are too short for you, so you end up walking around in them all day long with the crotch down near your knees.

13.Quince Preserves
I've had them, and they're yummy. A bit tart with just enough sweetness. I also just like the name of the fruit. Quince. If I had another son, I'd call him Quince. And then I'd lick him all over.

14. Quick Bread
Gotta love this stuff, mainly because it's quick and easy to make, and tastes like heaven. Banana bread with walnuts. Oh my god. I'd take that over Patrick Dempsey any day. Maybe not.

15. Quark
No, not the particle. The cheese. Fresh, soft, smooth. Like my butt. But quark tastes better.

16. Quarterlight
The only reason I am including this in this list is because of the memories I have of the quarterlight in my dad's Vauxhall. I would play with that triangular window, setting the angle just right as my dad drove, often without brakes. I often liked to angle it so that when the wind blew, it would whistle, irritating my little brother.

17. Quetzal
Isn't this bird loverly? The long-tailed Quetzal, the national bird of Guatemala. I would loooove to have a bird this beautiful in my home, to keep me company because I am just so lonely all the time. Yeah, right. Truly, though, this bird is amazing, and I could look at it all day long. As long as it didn't squawk, which I think it probably does. So forget about it.

This is my list. Take it or leave it. I need to lie down now.

I never even knew so many words started with Q. Cool post. Laughed at the quarter horse. My fav q is Quiet. Something I dont get a lot of as kids seem to congregate in my house. Ones my kids know of course, not just any kids who happen by. But you understand that right? Am I rambling? Tell me if I am rambling.

Did you eat some oatmeal?

Good job, Q-tie!
I don't even know what a few of those things are.... quarterlight? And I've never even seen a quince.

I also think that picture is actually a half-horse. But I might be wrong.

I want that Queensland job too. Maybe we could share it!!!

My verification word is VEREPUMA. That sounds like a small, faster rodent
Darn! I forgot quiet! I thought of it, and then forgot it. I guess maybe because it's very rare around this place...
